The Greatness of God in Creating You

Have you ever watched the sun drift below the horizon, leaving a canvas of colour behind it? I like to think of sunsets as masterpieces. It is a beautiful piece of art. People enjoy taking pictures of sunsets, because they are so unique and breathtaking everytime. No two sunsets are the same. Once you have seen a sunset, you will never see one that is exactly the same ever again. It is a one time moment.

What about snowflakes? No two snowflakes are exactly the same. They fall from the sky and drift towards the ground, maybe covering trees in a majestic white blanket, or landing on your tongue. If you aren’t paying attention, you might just think that a snowflake is just a snowflake, nothing unique or special about it. But upon closer inspection, you will see that each snowflake has its own specific design.

These ideas of being unique, different and having a specific design also applies to human beings. Have you ever looked around and noticed that there is no one out there that is exactly like you? Even identical twins have things that are different about them. God created each of us differently, yet specifically.

In our world, there are so many things that try to tell us that we aren’t good enough, aren’t pretty enough, or that we simply need to change everything about us. Think about social media, ads, and tv shows. People (especially women) that are portrayed as “perfect” usually have a face full of makeup, perfectly manicured hands, “perfect” teeth, slim body shapes, “perfect” hair… not that there's anything wrong with these things. It is not wrong to wear makeup, do your hair, workout, or wear braces to straighten your teeth.

The problem arises depending on your attitude about all of these things.

Why do you wear makeup? Do you wear it because you believe you are ugly without it? Or do you wear it because you find it fun? Is it a necessity or is it just fun to experiment?

Why do you workout? Is it because you want to be toned and sexy? Or because you want to be healthy?

Why do you straighten or curl your hair? Do you believe that you look better with heat treated hair than your natural locks? Or is it because you simply like looking different once in a while or it makes your hair more manageable?

It is all about the attitude.

God made you amazingly unique and complicated. He made you different from everyone else. And He has a reason.

Psalm 139:14 spells out a truth so simple, yet seemingly so unbelievable. “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Direct paraphrase, “God made me in His image, beautiful and perfect for the purpose that He has for me.”

I’m a girl too. I’ve struggled with insecurity about weight. I’ve struggled with negative body image. I’ve struggled to look in the mirror. I know how hard it can be to believe this simple truth. But seriously, God created you just the way you need to be. You are a one-of-a-kind gift from God to the world. There will never be anyone just like you ever again.

He planned you. He designed you. He created you.

What will it take to make you see this truth? What will it take for you to believe that you are exactly who you were created to be? What will it take to convince you that you most definitely are fearfully and wonderfully made?

Stop living in the shadows of who you think you need to be and who you think you are. Step out into the light of believing that God created you exactly how you are supposed to be.

Don’t allow your imperfections and flaws to define you or make you ashamed.

Share your struggles with God. Because He is the One that created you, He is also the One that knows what makes you tick. He knows exactly what you need to be comforted or at peace. He knows exactly how to change your mindset from “I’m not good enough” to “In Christ I am enough.”

You are a showcase of the greatness of God. He is the artist of what is physically you. Shouldn’t He also be the one that gets to define you?

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” ~Psalm 139:14
