In This Lockdown, Look Up & Look Around

To all my fellow Ontario dwellers (and anyone reading this):

It is April 1st today, and all of Ontario is going back into lockdown at midnight tonight. All of me wishes that they could have ended the announcement with a quick little “April Fools” but sadly that is not the case.

So I thought I would pop in here quick (it has been awhile) and I want to encourage you today.

In this lockdown, look up and look around.

“What is Abbey trying to say?” you might be thinking to yourself.

Let me explain what I have in mind here.

Look Up

As a believer in Jesus Christ, it is my daily duty to look to Christ in all of my confusion, anxiety, and disappointment. It can be really hard in times like these to really believe and see that God is in control. Right now, it really feels like the government or the health system or even that Covid19 is in control. I encourage you to take a step back and look up. Look up to the God that created the stars, the God that leads the angels and knows them ALL by name, and never forgets about any of them (Isaiah 40:26). Look up and try to find His goodness and grace in the confusion and chaos. Look up.

Look Around

All around us there are people that are hurting, lonely, and anxious. These times are hard on everyone. Not one of us remains unaffected by the pandemic. We are told to practice social distancing, not emotional distancing. Reach out to someone that you think could use an extra dose of happy or encouragement today. Call the elderly people from your church or family if you can. Write a letter to someone that you haven’t heard from in awhile. The amount of difference you can make in someone’s day just by letting them know that you care for them, are thinking about them, and that you haven’t forgotten them is HUGE. You have the ability to make someone feel loved and remembered, so why don’t you give it a try? Cultivate joy. Be the good. Point to Jesus. Look around.
