I am the kind of girl that loves music. Just ask my family. They will tell you that I sing... ALL. OF. THE. TIME. I always have a song on the tip of my lips. I sing in the shower, I sing in the car, I sing in my room... there is only one emotion that I feel that makes me stop singing: sadness. When I feel sad, I don't sing. I don't really know why, but that's just the way it is. BUT--- listening to the right music helps me to remember to bring my sadness and hurt to God. I thought I would share the top 5 songs that helped me, encouraged, inspired me, reminded me that I am not the only one that feels pain, and that God is the healer.
Scars - I Am They
This song is part of I Am They's album called "Trial & Triumph," and I love their band so much that I ended up purchasing the entire CD. My favourite verse in this song goes as follows:
"Now I'm standing in confidence
With the strength of Your faithfulness
And I'm not who I was before
No, I don't have to fear anymore"
... and then continuing into the chorus. The message of this song is that scars are not the end of the world. Christ still bears the scars of what our sin did to Him in His side and on His hands and feet. These scars are proof that He loves us... to death.
Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) - Hillsong UNITED
This song is about the grace of God, and how it abounds "in deepest waters."Sometimes we are called to walk through pain, trials, and hardships, but God is still with us there. This songs reminds me that even though what I am going through is hard, there is Someone there with me, and through His strength I can do anything! Here is the first verse for a taste of the lyrics:
"You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand"
Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) - Chris Tomlin
When I feel trapped in this world of sin and temptation, as a Child of God, this song gives me a renewed sense of God's unending love for me. The chorus gets me everytime:
"My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace"
A perfect mix of old an old hymn and new inspiration.
10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) - Matt Redman
This song is the perfect reminder of why God deserves to be praised and glorified. Though this song does not list all ten-thousand(+) reasons of why we should bless the Lord, it is a good start.
"You're rich in love
And You're slow to anger
Your name is great
And Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness
I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons
For my heart to find"
Trust in You - Lauren Daigle
As a girl that is full of dreams and plans for the future, as a girl that is full of questions about life, and as a girl that has been through some trying times (haven't we all?), this song is the perfect reminder that because God is so good, strong, and loving, I will trust in Him.
"Letting go of every single dream I lay each one down at Your feet Every moment of my wandering Never changes what You see I try to win this war I confess, my hands are weary, I need Your rest Mighty warrior, king of the fight No matter what I face You're by my side
When You don't move the mountains I'm needing You to move When You don't part the waters I wish I could walk through When You don't give the answers As I cry out to You I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You"
What songs inspire you and remind you that God is good?
