“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

~1 Peter 5:7

Guest Post by Kylie Enter

To Ashley, it seemed like her whole life was falling apart. Exams were around the corner and she was failing math and science, her best friend was moving across the globe, her boyfriend just broke things off, and her sports tournament had just been cancelled. Could it get any worse?

As she sat at the kitchen table while her mom was baking in the kitchen, she poured out her heart to her mother.

“I understand your frustrations, Ashley, but I have to ask, have you been turning your anxieties over to your Father?” she asked.

Ashley frowned, “Was I supposed to tell dad about this first? I don’t think he has time to listen to my rants!”

Her mom smiled, “No, honey, that's not what I meant. Have you told your Heavenly Father who cares about your rants and always has time for you?”

Ashley sighed in frustration, “Really mom? You think the God of the universe has time for a stressing teenage let alone cares about my stupid rants?”

“Yes Ashley, He does. He does even more than your earthly Father does. 1 Peter 5:7 says that we are to cast all our anxieties on Him because He cares. Who better to tell than the one who can see your future and who understands why you are so frustrated?!?” her mom said.

Ashley frowned.

The God of the universe cares about the troubles of my day to day life? He cares that my heart hurts and that my mind is stressed?

Ashley bowed her head and told her Father everything that was on her heart. As tears streamed down her face in relief, she looked at her mom and smiled.

“He cares. I can trust Him! He holds my tomorrow in His hands!”

1. What is trust? Trust… What does it mean? What is the definition for this 5 letter word? The definition of trust as a noun is: firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. The definition of trust as a verb is: believe in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of. Now that we know what trust means according to the dictionary, let's see what it means to trust according to God's word.

2. What does it mean to ”physically trust”? Throughout the bible, I think we should read the word “trust” as a verb. We should be physically trusting. Trusting God. He is the only one we can truly trust with our whole hearts and not have to fear heartbreak because He is faithful. So how do we physically trust God in the action/verb sense of the word? Peter really hits the spot when he says “cast all your anxiety on Him”. That is the tell tale sign that proves that you trust your Father. When you are able to tell Him about the highs and lows of your life like you do your best friend(s), then you know that you fully trust Him.

3. Trust is not easy. I, for one, struggle greatly with this. The telling him about my worries and then letting go and letting Him take care of them. Yah, I’m not too good at doing that. I get very anxious and worry like crazy when I don't know what my week holds or how the future will go. I lose sleep and have major mood swings. I almost go to the point of feeling minorly depressed if my worry and anxiety is great enough. The only remedy for this is to talk to my and your Father and tell Him all my anxieties, all my worries, and put them in His hands. And you know what? It works! If you truly trust Him to guide you through your week, the month, the year, your life, you will find that it is much easier to face the unknown. And what’s even more amazing is that when Peter tells us to put our anxieties on Him, he doesn’t end there. He goes on with a promise that should make your heart beat fast… “because He cares for you”. Because your Father cares for you, He will keep you in His care and give you His peace!

Pray with me!

Father, today, we just want to put our trust in You. You alone know how hard or how easy it is for each one of us to trust. Please help each one of these girls to know truly in their hearts that they can trust You like they have trusted no one before. We don’t have to fear heartbreak when it comes to trusting You because You promise us that You care for us! You are faithful beyond understanding. Send Your Holy Spirit to stir up our heart to have a Father-Daughter relationship with You, a relationship that we are comfortable to tell You about our worries and anxieties. Bless us that we might be a blessing to those around us and be with Your children far and near, strong in faith and weak in faith. May we be Your lights on earth spreading love wherever we go! Amen!

Reflect - Do you trust your Heavenly Father? Are you able today to give all your worries over to Him and TRUST that He is able to keep your life from spinning out of control? I encourage you today and in the days to come every time you feel anxious or uncertain about the future (whether that be the future in 5 minutes or the future in a year) to bring it before your Heavenly Father WHO CARES!
