Dealing with disappointing grades

Hey,

You did your best. You felt confident when you handed it in or submitted it to your teacher. You excitedly awaited your mark, hoping that your teacher had the same thoughts about it that you had. You get your mark back, and you are bummed.

Maybe you are here because you, like me, have received some disappointing grades from your final tests, projects, or exams. I feel you. I’ve been there, done that (and maybe got the t-shirt? lol).

I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. And sometimes, to a certain degree, it is ok to be a little disappointed. It’s ok to shed a few tears. BUT, don’t let yourself drown in those tears.

I don’t know your situation, but for the most part, this mark isn’t the end of the world.

This mark isn’t your death sentence.

I have realized that I have placed FAR too much meaning into my marks. I have also realized that these disappointing marks could be little reminders from God.

A reminder that I cannot do anything on my own.

A reminder that a mark is just a mark.

A reminder that there is so much more to life than a good or bad grade.

A reminder to look to Him at all times.

A reminder to thank Him for the good AND the bad things.

This does not mean that I will never be disappointed about a mark ever again. I’m human, and I don’t always react the way that I know that God wants me to. But, I can feel peace and hope for the future, no matter how bad my mark is. I am still loved by my Saviour. I am still protected by my God. He loves me in my highs and lows. Isn’t this so much more promising than any good mark you could ever get?

Next time that the tears are threatening to spill down your cheeks, pray. This advice might seem really silly now, but it is actually really important.

Thank God for giving you the ability to complete that specific test or assignment. Thank Him that the mark isn’t any lower than it is. Ask Him to give you peace and the motivation to not be discouraged. Ask Him to show you how you can improve next time.

A grade is just a number.

I hope this helps some of you girls during this time of receiving back final marks from this past school year. Don’t let your disappointment swallow you up. Instead, keep your eyes on the bigger picture, and praise the Lord in all you do.

Till next time, Abbey ♡
