Question: What does it mean to be a daughter of God?

"I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters." ~2 Corinthians 6:18

Identity is a huge struggle in our day and age. So many people don't know who they are. They become even more lost on their search to find who they truly are, not knowing what truly defines them.

Being a daughter of God means having an identity in Him. He is your rock and your foundation. His true and Holy Scriptures is your "guide to life."

This is what it means to be a daughter of God.

God is your Father. Imagine with me for a minute, what the perfect father would be like. When his daughter is newly born, he cradles her and protects her, looking at his precious baby daughter with eyes full of love. He comforts her in the middle of the night when he hears her crying from a bad dream. He skips going out with his buddies to take his daughter to her dance or piano recital. When his daughter is a teenager, he wants to make sure that she does well in school and has positive relationships with friends. He wants to comfort when she goes through the tough stuff. When she comes closer to adulthood he wants to make sure that she doesn't date/marry a man that isn't going to be there for her forever. He always wants the best for his daughter because he loves her. This is the same deal with God, yet God is even more perfect and faithful than the best father you could ever imagine. He is the perfect Father. He wants the best for you!

You are His child. There are a lot of people out there that either don't have a dad or don't have a positive relationship with their dad. First thing I want to say is that God the Father is not like any father here on earth. He does not lash out in anger. He does not threaten to leave. He is not neglectful. He is not unforgiving. He does not consider you a burden. He does not think you are a mistake.

He is merciful. "Gracious is our Lord, and righteous; yes, He is merciful." Psalm 116:5

He is forgiving. "... as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:32b

He has a future for you. "For I know the plans I have for you; plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

He will never leave you. "I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you." Joshua 1:5

He created you. "It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture." Psalm 100:5

He wants to carry your burdens. "Casting all your cares upon Him, for He careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7

He loves you. "We love Him because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19

That is literally just 7 of the infinite number of promises that can be yours if you are His daughter.

Being a daughter of Christ means that you have forever Father in heaven. He is willing to supply all you need. He is tender and compassionate. He sees the pain that you are going through, He understands our grief, He is faithful in ALL things.
